Frequently Asked Questions

How can I trust Safe Hands Pet Care ?

Safe Hands Pet Care has public and employers liability insurance. All our walkers and sitters undergo an interview, comprehensive reference checks and are asked to provide a letter from the Garda Central vetting office stating that there are no records on the Garda database concerning them. As we have been in business since 2004, we can provide excellent references.

What type of pets do Safe Hands Care for?

We love all pets and will care for many different types of critters. Safe Hands will care for most pets as long as they do not pose a danger to us and do not have a history of biting or attacking other animals or people.

What services do you provide?

We provide a regular or occasional Dog Walking Service and a personalised visiting/companionship for your pets so that they can stay in the security of their own home while owners are away for a day, weekend or even a holiday

How many times do you visit?

As many times as the client requires.

How long do visits normally last?

Our most popular request is for a 30 Min to 1 Hour visit. This usually consists of a good walk for dogs, play time, quick groom, feeding / water and general companionship.

What about administering medication?

We have experience in administering routine medication. On our Intro meeting with you and your pets all medication details will be recorded your client file.

How do I register for Safe Hands Services?

Before we are able to accept any bookings we need to carry out a pet care assessment. This gives you an opportunity to meet us and us to meet you and your pets. It will take about 30-40 minutes and will cover details such as normal daily exercise, feeding and your pets likes and dislikes. This will enable us to provide the highest level of care in your absence.

Do I have to sign a contract?

Yes, we need a signed statement that you agree to let us into your home to care for your animals. We also need confirmation that you agree to our policies and procedures.

Do you take my dog walking if it is raining?

Yes, most dogs love walking in the rain. They will be given a good rub down on their return.

Why hire a pet sitter?

When you have to be away from home, for travel or an emergency, and you do not want to leave your pet in a boarding kennel, who takes care of your pet? If, like many pet owners, you ask a friend or neighbour to drop in and pour some food and water in your pet's bowls, is this really sufficient care and attention for your pet? There's a good chance that your friends and neighbours, lacking proper pet-care experience and, having forgotten to show up, will say "Never mind, I will give him double tomorrow."

You want to leave your pets in 'Safe Hands' where your pet will get:
  • The environment they know best
  • Their same diet and routine
  • Relief from travelling to and staying in an unfamiliar place with other animals (such as a boarding kennel)
  • Love, care and attention while you're away
  • And also your home will be in 'Safe Hands' - we will carry out security checks, turn lights on/off, put out and collect rubbish bins, collect post & milk and if required water household plants.

And you will have:
  • Happier friends and neighbours, who are not burdened with the responsibility of your pets
  • The peace of mind that comes from knowing that your pets are being cared for by a professional
  • Someone to bring in your newspaper and post etc., thereby creating a lived-in look and so deterring potential burglars
  • Someone who will come to your home so you don't have to drive your pet to a boarding kennel
